Our logistics team did an amazing job booking us the loveliest house in the mountains for our third debrief in Kyrgyzstan. See for yourself in the pictures below and they don’t even do it justice! It was really beautiful!

In the evening, we would leave the window in our room open to let the cool air in. The minute we would turn the lights on though, a handful of moths would come flooding in. And they would start flying around the light in our room. However, they would usually disappear once the lights were off… except for the one or two more adventurous ones that would stick around and fly right into my phone’s and/or laptop’s screens. One particular evening, I’ve had enough: I hit one of them. I have not only been trying to chase it away with my hands, but it also started flying by my face. I just couldn’t take it anymore. Thus yes! I hit it and it landed on my bed. And the most interesting thing happened.

The second it hit my bed, it desperately tried to take cover under anything it could find. First it tried crawling under my laptop. I moved my computer. Then I watched it crawl as fast as it could towards my laptop case. I also moved the case. Its next place of refuge ended up being the little space under my bible and journal. You guess it: I also moved them. Lastly, it tried hiding under my sheet and let’s just say it took its last breath under it.

Its behavior was fascinating to me: how could something that is created to be attracted to the light tried its very best to hide/run away from it the minute it gets hurt? As the days went on, it started to sink in that this moth’s behavior when it got hurt was no different then mine. Quite often, God tries to bring to light the broken and “hurt” areas of my life. And the minute I realize that I will have to acknowledge or that people will see them, I keep them hidden. What I have realized however, especially during my month in here in Kyrgyzstan, is that certain things do need to come to light so that Satan no longer has power over them. Thus, I need to learn to let God move away the “laptop”, the “laptop case,” and the “sheets” from over me because these things must die in order for Him to continue to do the good work He started in me.

And yes, a moth was harmed in the making of this story and I don’t really feel guilty about it. Sorry to all the animal lovers out there!
