As I am learning how to step into the new role of team leader, I have been drawn to the words of wisdom in Proverbs. Here are some of the things I have learned.
Things to step into:
-
Wisdom. SEEK IT ALWAYS. The first 10 chapters of Proverbs center around the personified woman named “wisdom.” She is yours to have, but you must desire her and seek her out.
-
Never stop learning. And ask for advice!
-
Keep wise and righteous company. (iron sharpens iron!)
-
Be steadfast in love, which means love always… without condition
-
Acknowledge God in all your ways- this is what I think it means to “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thess 5:17)
-
Be generous (mentioned many times!!)
-
Be a hard worker
-
Be gracious
-
Love discipline, it will build you into who your Creator has made you to be
-
Be prudent or wise about what the future holds
-
Have a tranquil heart, slow to anger, with a soft and gentle tongue.
-
Commit your work to the Lord, and He will establish your steps
-
Listen, then respond. Think things through
-
Pursue kindness and patience
-
Memorize words of wisdom so they may be kept in your heart for times of need.
-
Be bold
Things to run from:
-
Complacency! Never stop running to the Lord, always want more of Him
-
Don’t withhold good from those who it is due. In other words, when you seek a good quality in someone, speak into that! Tell one another the beautiful characteristics they carry.
-
Do not have devious talk, lying, pride, or lust.
-
Do NOT try to gain wealth hastily (mentioned many times), have a hasty temper, or make hasty actions!
-
Do not be quarrelsome
-
Never desire anything from a stingy person
-
Never rejoice in your enemy’s fall
-
Drunkenness
-
Gluttony
-
Idleness
-
Do not fear man, rather fear the Lord
Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is insight.”
Proverbs 24:3-4 “By wisdom a house is built;, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”
