Today, we bought poster board and markers using the funds that people donated to us through our GoFundMe. With the help of our Greek friend George, we translated the question “What are you thankful for today?” into Greek and took the signs to Aristotle Square. As people walked by, we asked them to consider what they were thankful for and to write it on our boards (and to take a cookie while they were at it). We spent about an hour and a half talking to people and asking them about their lives, their families, and their passions. About 12 different languages are represented on our boards, including Greek, English, Romanian, Hebrew, Arabic, French, Italian, etc. We met a backpacker on a 5-year hitch-hiking expedition around the globe, a man named Alan who drew us a picture of his mom + house on the back of our board (and asked us to mail the picture back to his mom in Romania so she knows he’s alive and well in Greece), and a wide array of other folks finishing up their errands and business for the day. When people asked us why we were out holding signs, we were able to explain that we are thankful for a lot of things, but the thing that we’re most thankful for is Jesus Christ and the freedom from sin and death. Hopefully, those who passed by our signs were reminded of the incredible gifts that the Lord has given them, whether they acknowledge Him or not.
