Have you ever met someone who told you that you look just like someone else? Like you have a famous doppelgänger? I have heard that I look like a mix between David Beckham and Leonardo DiCaprio (that is definitely up to interpretation). I also have heard that I look like a good friend of mine that we call Gravy. If you know me you know that I have some crazy fashion statements, from American flag chubbies to blue jean overalls. I don’t like to follow trends too often so you can see me wearing anything at practically any time. But no matter what I always get someone to say I look like someone else and I am sure that is probably the same with most of you all.

This is strictly because of our outer appearance but I have a question for you: who would people say you looked like if you wore your personality on the outside?

If people didn’t see what you look like but rather who you are, who would they say your doppelgänger is?

A friend of mine asked me this and it really made me think. And honestly I can probably tell you exactly who your personality doppelgängers would be; it would be the people who you surround yourself with.

When I was in college my friends and I had a group of about twenty people who would hangout with one another on a daily basis. It was a specific group of us that would do everything together whether it was going out to eat and seeing a movie to going to SWU and winning an ultimate frisbee tournament. When others tried to join our group and hangout with us, it wasn’t that we were not open to more friends, it was just that they weren’t like us. If someone saw our personalities they would say we all we’re very similar. What is cool about being around people who are like you is that they have a great influence on you. On the flip side of that coin you have a great influence on those people too.

People always say “Be the change you want to see in the world” but you can’t start changing whats going on around you until you start changing whats going on within you.

Ephesians 4:32 says Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Once you accept Christ’s forgiveness it changes you and the way you treat people.

So think about this next time you are around your group of friends or family and see what kind of influence you are having on them. Is it a positive influence? If not, what should happen? Until next time….

Love you guys and Happy Thanksgiving.
