This month our ministry my team is partnered with Life Church. They are having a conference coming up and asked each of us to write a short devotional. This is the devotion I wrote for it. Hope you like it!

A Caring God

1 John 2:6 “Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” NIV

Have you ever thought of Jesus as a caring person or having a caring spirit? Even if you have, lets take a look at Jesus in the bible.

Jesus absolutely loved people! He had a heart for children (Matthew 19:13-15), for those who were suffering (Mark 5:25-34), for the spiritually lost (Luke 19:1-9), for those rejected by the popular crowd (Matthew 9:9-12), and even for those society condemned (John 8:1-11.

However, not only did he love people but he loved helping people as well. He healed a mute and deaf man (mark 7:31-35), he fed the hungry (mark 6:32-44), and even on the cross in a ridiculous amount of pain he cared for his mom (John 19:25-27).

Furthermore, he was a forgiving man. So forgiving he forgave those who persecuted him on the cross. (Luke 23:34)

There are many more stories in the bible of how caring Jesus is. You might say by now, “Okay, I get it. Jesus was a caring person. What’s that got to do with me?” Well, it has a lot to do with you and me.

Take a look at 1 John 2:6 “Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” NIV

Get it yet?

Christ is very caring, so as a follower of Christ we are told to do the same. I use to not be a very caring person. However, one day I realized I needed to be more like Christ and develop a caring spirit. I began to pray for a caring heart like Christ and began to look for opportunities I could be caring in. Today I am a caring person!

Reflection

Are you a caring person?

If not, how can you change that?

Prayer

Thank you for allowing me to see how much of a caring God you are. I pray I can be more like you in this way. I pray to have a heart like yours that cares so deeply for people.

Amen
