ALL SQUAD MONTH! This month we had our whole squad partnering with an Adventures base and Hope Chest. We had groups working in the fields, at Carepoints, and in the office.
I was at the Carepoint this month and knew after the first week that I wanted to stay there. Carepoints are set up all over Swazi for vulnerable children to come for education (pre-school), discipleship, and a hot meal each day. As much as I still loved being around children our main ministry this month became the Gogo’s, the Shepherd, and the teachers. We came in each day eager to learn how to cook and eager to sit around talking with the women. By the end of our time there we were able to come in and start lunch for the children by ourselves. Some of my favorite memories from our time here were sitting around chatting and having tea with the women while we wait for the children’s food to cook.
These amazingly strong women come in everyday to make food for the children without pay. They have started a ministry called the Timbali market where they can see various things they’ve made. We were able to go and support them in that one day.
A squadmate and I were given an extra special opportunity the last week in Swazi. We went with one of their long term missionaries to do a house visit with a boy in a wheelchair. We spent time with him, asked a lot of questions about special needs in this culture, and ended up going shipping for things for him to do at home. They are trying to get him an in home helper to spend time each day with him. I was so sad to see how close he was to a Carepoint and yet still unable to get there. Even if the roads weren’t as bad as they are the wheelchair is not the easiest to get around and up hills. Although this day came with a lot of emotions it was another glimpse of Heaven for me. His smile could light up a room and I am so blessed to have spent even just a short time with him.
God is so good!
