I find it intriguing how our minds are able to remember specific little details, yet forget even bigger ones. I think a great term guys like to use when receiving information is “selective hearing”. So, could us remembering selective items in our memory be called “selective remembering”? Interesting.
Our ability to smell, taste, see, or hear a trigger immediately brings back a memory long lost in our memory is outrageously brilliant. It’s basically a built in auto-search bar. Are you able to recall a time when a specific scent you smelled reminded you of something from childhood? They can be either good or bad memories. As humans, we tend to filter out what we want to remember/affects us and throw the rest away after a certain amount of time. Yet, if something is very meaningful a sudden hint could instantly bring the vivid scene to the forefront of our minds.
I enjoy reminiscing the memories of sitting in an amazing rocking chair on the front porch at my grandparent’s farmhouse, winning a little-league baseball game in comeback fashion, graduating high school with a gigantic cumulonimbus approaching the football field, and the list can go on and on. However, what if you have a remembrance of a thought that you had? This isn’t a remembrance of something that actually happened. What about an idea, dream, desire, or goal that you never did or got to do? Something that you thought was a great idea, got too busy, put it off, and forgot about it until something triggers/randomly the thought comes back again. Could we call it random?
Remember that one time?…
What I’m getting at is that I’ve had an idea for way over a year I have kept putting off. I’ve sort of tried to erase it from memory, but it keeps coming back in an annoying way. The thought isn’t just a thought, but one of something best described as a deep knowing. It’s not a bad thought, but one that leaves me feeling as if it would be a waste of my time. However, there is something deep down in me that wants to accept the challenge of this idea.
I can easily list reasons why not to do it (a.k.a. excuses):
- I’m not qualified/skilled enough
- I already don't have a lot of spending money
- It’s not really going to benefit/help others
- I don’t know what I’m really doing
This idea will help me collect ideas and memories from the past for the future and for whoever would like to enjoy.
It’s a website. Yea. What?
I’m at a point where I can’t exactly explain where the deep desire has come from for this, but I’m pretty sure it’s God through the Holy Spirit. More updates are to come. Thanks for reading!
