“If you go a whole day without doing something for someone else, an entire day has been wasted.”       – Amber Jackson

Yes… I did just quote myself.

I’d like to use this article to start a new blog topic titled “Random Acts of Kindness.”  Because I have learned that every random act of kindness provides the opportunity for amazing.

Allow me to explain.

This past Thursday, my Angelo and I stopped by a local grocery to grab some eats.  We headed straight for the produce.  It didn’t take us long to decide what we wanted… a peach for me, a pear for him and a bag of cherries to share; we like fruit.

Angelo and I always turn up when we are hanging out so, of course, we are acting a fool, having a good time but as we are walking out of the produce, through the frozen foods, I see an elderly gentleman.

To help you understand my obsession with the elderly… here is a rather accurate meme I found by Googling “adorable old man”.

For real.

Old people are my favorite.

SO CUTE

anyways…

SO this man in the frozen section LITERALLY took a full 30 seconds to stand up out of his motorized shopping cart.

As soon as I saw him, I reacted with an automatic SWERVE in his direction.

Can we help you sir?

eeeeeeeehhhhhh … I was trying to get some ice cream…

May I get it for you? Which one do you want?

he gestured towards this

 WINNING!

Two please,” he said.  I grabbed them and put them in his cart.  He then looked at Angelo and said… “How long have you been in the service?

(I’m going to interject here that we were at a Military-Only grocery… and Angelo very recently cut off all his hair)

Angelo’s response: “… sir?

How long have you been in the service?

OH! I’m not military.

We are dependents.  Our parents are military.” I added

This entire conversation took place while he was inching himself around to sit back down.  At this point I couldn’t have been cheesing any harder.

When he finally made it around, I went to say goodbye “It was nice to meet you sir.” and shook his adorable little wrinkly hand.

Then Angelo, too, went for a hand shake.

Much to our surprise, the man did NOT go for a handshake with Angelo…

HE WENT FOR A FIST BUMP.

Do you bump?” he asked

Angelo laughed “Yes sir.

Okay then… well I bet you don’t know this one…” And proceeded to teach Angelo all the steps to his personal secret handshake! “I learned that one in NAM.

HE LEARNED IT IN VIETNAM!

OOOOOOOHHHHHH MMMMMMYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOSSSSSSHHH

Highlight of my day.  So cute.

And to think- had I passed up the opportunity to help him grab his vanilla noms, I wouldn’t have been able to experience his adorableness.

The rest of my day I was in a ridiculously good mood.

Yes… I just quoted myself… again.

I didn’t quote myself that time.
