Fifth month on the race… and the first one in Africa. Do you know how much is supposed to happen here in African?! The one joke on the race was, “oh, just wait till we get to Africa.” The awful living conditions, the healings, the hot weather, the demon deliverance, the ‘no peanut butter zone’, the camp fire prepared meals… you get the picture. It was all expected to hit us once we set foot in Africa. And there we all were in Mwanza, Tanzania… waving back to every local, eating rice and beans everyday for lunch, leading dozens of people to Christ, and sleeping under our tents or bug nets to protect ourselves from the malaria mosquitoes. We were finally in Africa, and reminded of the World Race “no expectations” rule. Africa was another continent, for another month… and Jesus was there to move through us in ways only he can.

We worked with a Pastor named Celsus who is on fire for the Lord. He had us speaking at church 2-4 times per week, doing evangelism all morning in neighboring villages, and making great relationships with the locals and translators that we worked with. We were quickly introduced to the title, “Mzungu”, which means “white person”. This was funny at first, and then when every local yelled it at us, we were searching for something appropriate to say back! We fell in love with the people there though… and I am convinced that every little child that came to hug me and be with me was Jesus telling me how much he loves me. We also fell in love with the way the Tanzania’s knew how to dance! They had moves like we have never seen… and our 4 hour church services were very hot, sweaty, rhythmic, and loud.

I loved Tanzania and wanted to share it all with you. Please check out the video at the bottom by my wonderful team mate Carly Crookston!
