Planting is hard. Investing is hard. Spending one month in a country and diving deep with people is hard.
That is what we did in Vietnam, we planted seeds, we invested into young college students lives and we just had to say goodbye to all of them.
Going into the Race you expect to have some hard goodbyes, you expect to miss people and want to either take them with you onto the next stop or stay with them a little while longer. But there is nothing that you can do to prepare yourself for when all of those feelings hit you.
Life is hard.
Following Christ is hard. Worth it, but hard.
Sometimes Jesus calls you plant seeds when you don’t get to sick around for the harvest. Sometimes you have to leave someone with your questions going unanswered.
My team planted many seeds this month but there are two relationships that we all felt called to invest in. Two people we wanted to invite everywhere and do everything with. Two people that made our long days better. Two people the Lord allowed us to meet and pour into. Two people that were very different but had a lot of experience in knowing the harsh reality of this world. Bad things happen. People are mean. Life is hard.
We were able to to talk to them about what we believe and what they believe.
You could see the curiosity in their eyes by the time we left.
One of the boys we talked to had freedom in what he believed. He was not scared of what his mother thought. He wasn’t scared of getting thrown out on the street or loosing his family.
One of the boys was. He had all of those fears. They were all very real to him. You see in Vietnam, what your parents believe, you believe. If you chose to pick a different route, you pick a different place to live. You say goodbye University unless you find a way to pay for it yourself. You say goodbye to the motorbike your parents gave you, goodbye to the room they allow you to stay in, and goodbye to having a family. (Not all families are like this in Vietnam, from what I have learned, most are)
This month I happy to be in the season of planting and looking forward to the season of prayer that comes after. Prayer that someone will follow up with these two boys and that I will see them past this life on Earth.
Thanks for reading!
Until next time,
Alyssa
