T H E C H A I R … T A K E T W O .
Last year, when I went on the Race, I decided to do a photo blog series in South Africa (months five and six). I took a picture of each person that I was living with in front of a white wall, sitting in a fancy white arm chair. Then I wrote about them, had them write a little something about themselves, and posted individual blogs for each person.
If you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about, or need a little refresher, clic here to read/look.
Writing those blogs and taking those pictures was the most fun. I loved being able to capture each person’s personality and portray their uniqueness. Portraits in front of white walls are one of my favorite things; I think it really beautifully showcases individuality and personality.
Well… there are a WHOLE lot of white walls in Ecuador. In fact, I’ve been living in a white house for the past month. When we first got here, the idea to do another chair photo blog series popped into my mind. I’m over-the-moon excited that I have another chance to introduce you to some of my friends via The Chair Series, take two.
This time, you get to meet my leadership team. They are fantastic. It’s my hope that you’ll get a little glimpse of that when you read these. Enjoy.
K A T E
Kate knows what it means to really love people. She yields herself completely to the Lord, and it gives her the capacity to be constantly emptied and poured out. Even when nobody pursues her, she lives in obedience to the Father and pursues people. Philippians 4:6 talks about how being constant in prayer produces freedom, thankfulness, and peace. This fruit is evident in Kate’s life because of her self-discipline in prayer. You can almost always count on seeing this 5 foot tall woman with a mason jar full of black coffee, her trusty jean jacket vest, and some Burt’s Bees Chap Stick.
I’m thankful for the way that she has stuck with me through multiple seasons of life.
WHAT’S HER ROLE? Squad Mentor. Squad mentors oversee all of leadership (squad leaders and alumni team leaders) and all 50 (ish) of the Racers. They come out to the field three times throughout the nine months, and stay for a month each time. While they’re in the States, they still oversee the squad and leadership, just from afar. They will check in weekly (sometimes more) through phone calls and emails. Squad mentors cast a lot of vision for what they want our year to look like in the areas of intimacy with the Lord, community, and missional living.
FUN FACT: Kate was my squad mentor for my Race last year, and I am now team leading for her as my squad mentor for Gap V!
What do you offer people?
i offer people God’s conviction, which leads to true and full freedom. a lot of people believe a life of conviction and discipline is entrapping. stifling. but if you remain with God in conviction and truth, the truth will always set you free to live an abundant life. (john 8:31+32)
