So I have officially been on the World Race for one week. In this first week on the field, I have learned many lessons. Here’s a few of them.
1. Ecuador is loud. Very loud. But probably one of the most beautiful countries I’ve ever been to.
2. The Amazon really is as beautiful as they say it is.
3. Throwing toilet paper in the garbage instead of the toilet is a hard habit to learn.
4. When they say give up all your expectations, they mean ALL your expectations. Things hardly ever go as planned.
5. English is a lot more rare than I expected.
6. There are tarantulas that like to chill in your room. Yes. TARANTULAS.
7. I have a huge fear of cockroaches. Especially when they try to crawl all over me while I sleep. Sean thinks it’s irrational, but I promise, it’s not.
8. Having sweet slumber parties and watching Hot Rod is an awesome way to make a hard day better.
9. It would be really easy to go through this year and just chill, meet some cool people, see some cool things and then go back to my normal life. I really have to be intentional in making time for God in our busy schedule.
10. Feedback/community living is hard, despite the sweet slumber parties. Being completely open and vulnerable with people you can’t run from is one of the most challenging/rewarding things I’ve ever experienced.
11. The work to be done in me is immense. Though I have a Saviour holding onto me on the right and an awesome group of six amazing people holding onto me on the left.
So that’s where I’m at. I’m learning, I’m growing, I’m changing. I definitely still have moments that I can’t believe I am actually on the World Race. That this is my life for an entire year. Crazyyyy.
