12n12
Buenas tardes/noches a todos! So, what happened to “11n11?” After resigning from my job back in November, I had more than enough home-work pending completion prior to my departure in January. But all work and no play makes for one very stressed out and exhausted Allison. Although I planned a good 6 weeks to get things done before leaving, God opened up an amazing opportunity for me to return to Spain. (Please be prepared for more Spanish/Castellano here on out!)
Four and a half years ago I first met Gloria as my host-mom when I spent a semester abroad in Madrid. Since then, Gloria, her daughter Glo, Glo’s husband and their son have become my second family. And Spain has become my home away from home.
Puerta del Sol
Madrid at Christmas is preciosísimo!
The relationship that developed between my Spanish family and I is one I can’t imagine life without. While a 2 week vacation sounded like a dream, God was also planning on using it as an opportunity for me to jump right in to the traveling Spanish mission field. Why wait until January when I can share Christ in Madrid today?! While Spain isn’t on the 11n11 list, God bumped my aventures up to 12n12. ¡Qué guay! (How awesome!)
Prayer request: While I still have a week left to enjoy this mini vacation and time with family, I want to take advantage of every ministry opportunity. Will you pray for these opportunities, open hearts, truth to push away lies and the light to overcome darkness with a whole lot of love in between? Additionally, for boldness on my part and that God gives me the right words in the right language at the right time 🙂
Route Changes
Changes have been made to the original WR Spanish route. Costa Rica was on the list as one of the countries were were to serve in, but instead we are going to… Argentina! I look forward to picking up another distinct and beautiful Spanish accent while also attempting to cross something off of my bucket list: dance the tango in the middle of the street (dramatic music is a must, rose in mouth is optional). ¡Olé!
Financial/Fundraising Update
Lastly, an update on my current financial fundraising status. As God promised me back in August when he told me to “go” and apply for the WR, he continues to provide. I’m currently 86% funded and need only $1926 to reach a fully-funded status!! Will you consider supporting me financially? Updates have been made to Adventures In Missions processing of funds and there are no fees for donations made electronically at: https://www.adventures.org/give/donate.asp?giveto=worldrace&desc=Allison%20Hencke
Additional prayer requests: For my sanity, timeliness and organization upon returning home this weekend as I make last minute purchases in preparation for the next year, move out of my apartment, tow/recycle my car, deal with insurances and spend time with friends and family before I leave.
Have a very Merry Christmas! And in the meantime, here are some photos to entice the travel bug within you to come visit Spain (When I get back, I’ll volunteer to be your tour guide/interpreter)
Paella con verduras (Vegetable paella made by mamá Gloria)
Tapas: croquetas, jamón, salchichón y patatas bravas. (Shout out to my fellow teammate Justin for sharing a great tapas place to find this incredible food!)
Langostinos – once you get over the eyes you won’t want to stop. Tasty Tip: Dip these guys in mayonnaise (post-peeling) and you’ll never think of shrimp the same way again.
