An ordinary day on the World Race looks a lot different than a normal day did back home. For the past 2 months I have been living out of a tent, taking cold showering every other day, washing my clothes by hand, and eating LOTS of rice and beans. The weather is really hot, and I've become used to drinking lots of water (and cold pops) because I'm sweating all the time. I realize that this might sound like absolute torture to some of you, but to me it's become my reality and a way of life for 2013.

It is in this lifestyle of abandoning the ordinary comforts of the American lifestyle – such as sleeping in a big comfy bed, having A/C, getting to take showers whenever I want, using a washer and dyer, and eating the  food I want when I want to – that I found a true peace and have become happy with having less "stuff". I no longer care or worry about my outfits matching or if my hair looks good because out here on the race, that stuff does not matter. What matters is my relationship with God, with my squad mates, and with the people I come in contact with.

Abandoning these things that I once sought comfort in has taught me that I was putting my value in things that would never fully satisfy me. Don't get me wrong – I do miss my super comfy queen sized bed and being able to take warm showers – but that's not what is important in this life. What is important is having God in my life and inviting Him into my day EACH and EVERY day. He is the one who satisfies me and makes my life worth living for.
