Cartagena, Colombia! I have to go back!
We were in Cartagena which is a beautiful city but we didn’t live in the tourist area. We lived in the guetto. Apparently were we lived was one of the most dangerous parts of the city. It was the guetto of San Francisco!!! It was a poor area but it was so beautiful. The airport was right next to us and Shakira’s building was always surrounding us.
This month we were 2 teams working togueter. Tonka and Open Arms, we like to called ourseves tonkarms!!!
Our ministry was great. People always want to talk to us and that was cool. Our ministry this month was one of my favorites. We work with Alex Rocha who is the founder of this ministry. All his values are Christian and really effective. We work with him and his beautiful family and this is what we did.
We teach English Classes for kids and adults. We have a lot of students. I was a teacher a lot of the times. We make them memorize scripture in English and we did a lot of activities that lead to conversations about Jesus. It was awesome because they were actually really interested in what we were doing and it was great encouragement to them to hear that there’s always hope.
On Sundays we have kids ministry. We teach a lesson from the bible play, some games that were focus on the lesson and then we have a small snack for them!
We help building a house, that was really fun but for a short time. We were not able to finish the house, but we did as much as we could do.
We play a lot of games with the kids, especially kickball which was the girls favorite game. Not only that, before we play we did some skits and pray. The kids loved to hear about Jesus Stories and on my second blog from Colombia you’ll get to read an awesome story about that.
We went to Shakira’s School. Fundacion Pies Descalzos and pray for them.
We also encourage the people we were staying with (Alex Rocha Youth Center) to open a church and that one of my biggest prayers for them because I know that they can make a huge impact in that community.
So far.. this is my favorite ministry and I hope I can go back and see a church.
