So finally, I’ve decided to write a blog on my month in China, well actually my month in Hong Kong.  One of the women on my team had troubles with her visa so we weren’t able to go into China until later in the month of December.

In Hong Kong, we got set up with an organization known as Crossroads.  Crossroads is an organization which aids in poverty both locally and internationally.  At times they seem more like a logistics company because it is so well run.  They receive donated goods, sort it, and send it out to places in need.  50% of the aid goes to local poverty in Hong Kong and the other 50% goes to relief effort around the world.

On top of this, Crossroads has these things called simulations which people can partake in.  These simulations take you through real life stories and struggles of people in different types of poverty.  They have an AIDS/HIV simulation, a blind simulation, and a poverty simulation.  While there, my team and I were able to partake in all of these.  The simulations are designed to open up peoples’ eyes to what it would be like to live in different less fortunate circumstances.  The organization brings in people from young students to CEO’s of major companies to undergo these simulations.  One person at a type Crossroads is stirring people to help out with the relief effort of the poor all around the world.

Crossroads is such an amazing organization, and such a testament to how the church should be serving the impoverished peoples of the world.  I would definitely consider returning to Crossroads to volunteer at some point.  They aren’t just giving people the Gospel through their words, but also through their actions.

After our time at Crossroads, we finally made our way into China towards the latter part of December.  We had to travel pretty much all the way across the country to get to our location and we actually had more days of transit than of ministry.  So after much travel we exhaustedly arrived at our location and met with our contact.  That same night we were put right to work putting together Gospel tracts which we would then use over the next few days.  Our task:  Walk around villages for three days hiding these Gospel tracts in zip lock bags in random piles of sticks and bricks outside peoples’ homes in hope that a few days later they would be discovered.

Although this may seem like a small thing that won’t have much of an impact, one has to realize that many of the people in these villages might have never even heard of Jesus.  Even if these were simply to plant a seed it was worth it.  I ask that you would please pray for the people that are probably still finding these packets.  Pray that their hearts would be open to the Gospel and that they would become a light to their neighbors.

China is one of those countries I never thought I would visit, but I did; and I did the best possible thing I could do, I gave them the message of Jesus Christ.
