I had the chance to be a camp counselor for a group of incoming seventh grade girls a couple months back. As I’ve learned constantly since I was saved, whenever I am in a position of leadership, without fail I end up learning more than I teach. This was totally true of this experience! During our girls’ session at camp, our middle school pastor’s wife, Sarah Ward, spoke on the Bible and gave one of the best analogies I think I’ve ever heard. Here’s how it goes: Think of the sweetest, most touching, heartfelt, lovey dovey love letter you could imagine. Got it? Great. Now think of just how much the person writing that letter must care about the recipient. It takes time, effort, and a big amount of love to do something like that for a loved one. Now, step back and take a look at the Bible. THAT is the most epic love letter anyone has ever received!! All Scripture is God-breathed, “pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times.”-Psalm 12:6. God gave us the Word so that we would know just how infinite and redemptive His love for us is. We can look to this old, big book, and see His heart for His people. As soon as I heard this analogy, I was so blown away! Not only that, but it reminded me that we as believers are supposed to be so head over heels in love with Jesus too, chasing after Him daily. I’ve been reading in the Psalms recently, and it has been such a good reminder of how our relationship with the Father is supposed to look. We are called, above all else, to love, and to love obediently and sacrificially. Thanks for reading and listening to what I’ve been learning about God. If you have the time, I strongly suggest taking a moment out of your day, giving some time to you and Jesus, and being intentional about drawing nearer to Him!
