Squad D had the opportunity to serve alongside Samaritans Purse from October 10th through October 17th in Lake Charles, Louisiana! This area was hit by not one hurricane but two. Hurricane Laura was a category 4 storm in August, followed by hurricane Delta in October.
I would like to share our experience serving in hurricane disaster relief through pictures!
The first homeowner we served was Mr. Nelson, whose home suffered more water damage because he went out to help his neighbors instead of worrying about his own home.
On the first day in Lake Charles, our team leader, Palmer, asked who wanted to help on the roof. Layna, Emma, and I volunteers and created “The Roof Crew” for the week!
When not roofing, we were “mudding” out houses, which involves removing all of the water damage from the house, and making it contractor ready!
Above is a picture with the last homeowner we served, Bud. He was the coolest 85 year old I’ve ever met. Bud spent 23 years serving in the military!
Whether it was moving trees to the curb, fixing roofs, mudding out houses, or talking to homeowners, we were blessed with the ability to share Jesus with others through more than words!! Wow! Thanks God!!
I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve in a unique and new way with these brothers and sisters!
