World Race has a lot of different roles they fill and each role has a specific name. Before I get into this blog post I’m going to explain what each role is, what it’s called, and who is filling that role.
SQUAD– The 23 racers (including me) that will be traveling to Romania, Guatemala, and Ecuador. Each race route is a squad.
MENTOR- The squad mentor. Taking care of us in most aspects from the states. Kate will be with us on the field for launch and debriefs. (She does a lot for us, if you want to know more just let me know)
COACHES- Our surrogate parents. Our coaches are an older married couple that has more wisdom than us that will be praying for us, encouraging us, and meeting up with us at debriefs. Brian and Cathy are the coaches for X squad.
SQUAD LEADERS– Lead our squad on the field. Taylor and Olivia will be with us all 9 months.
ALUMNI TEAM LEADERS– Racers that just got off the field in June and have decided to go back on the field to help us out. Alumni team leads are only on the field for the first 3 months (Romania). We have Aidyn, Cami, Jacob, Kori, and Philip.

TEAM– Smaller group within the squad that will do ministry together.
Without further ado, an introduction to my team (Team Anthem) and a bit about our name.
Maddie is from North Carolina and she brings positivity and encouragement to the team
Megan is from Washington and she sees multiple perspectives and creates fun in the stressful times
Nikki is from Wisconsin and she provides a listening ear and encouragement.
Lise is from Nevada and she is easy going and open minded
Gel is from New Jersey and she brings perspective
Jenay is from California and she leads into deeper conversation
(Alumni Team Lead)
Cami is from Texas and she brings vision and comfort in the hard stuff
Our team was asked to decide on a name during training camp. We bounced around a few ideas, came up with various names that roughly mean the same thing. Then we started to brainstorm names that had a meaning to us. At first, we were kinda kidding when someone suggested that we name our team after Aimee’s baby. When we were told that we needed to have a team name in about 45 minutes, it was between Anthem and Sails. We took a vote and with a majority of 4 to 1 (2 didn’t vote) we named our team Anthem.
If you see a photo (like the one below) of my team with a baby/small human it is because our team is named after her!
