Political Science might be one of the most depressing majors. In my academic studies at Boston University there were many classes I took that went through all the terrible things going on in the world. Whether that be injustice, inequality, oppression, political division or hate crimes, a large part of Political Science is identifying parts of the world that are broken. At times this was very frustrating because the solutions seemed small compared to the vast amounts of issues. One of the most depressing parts of my studies was when I was writing a research paper, on segregation in modern era school systems, and I was discussing with my professor how to propose some solutions, that’s when she told me, “As a political scientist, it is not our responsibility to propose solutions. Only to identify the problems.”

At first, I was really frustrated with this approach but then it dawned on me that it is not the responsibility of political scientist to come up with or be the solutions. The solution to many of these problems can only be found through Jesus, through the lens that Jesus sees the world, and through people like you and me who are willing to go serve, and love on others.

John 14:12, says this,
“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”

Did you catch that? Jesus tells us in this scripture that whoever believes in him, will do even greater works then he did. And when you look at the amazing things he was able to do through his short time on earth, it is difficult to comprehend that he has appointed us to do even GREATER things than He. But that’s exactly what He said and I believe it is my responsibility to allow God to use me and to use Christ through me to fulfill this scripture. My goal is to be obedient to this passage and go serve people around the world that need to know Jesus the most.
