So here I am, writing my first blog EVER. If you would have asked me at any point leading up to now if I would/could ever write one of these guys I would have laughed. But here we are, and here we go. Buckle up for this + the blogs to come. I hope to keep you entertained and informed. I hope for grace in my poor grammar // lack of talent with stringing words together efficiently or elegantly (I am a biochemistry major.. English isn’t my jam but here’s my best foot forward.) And I hope that you can see my genuine desires through these words.
First thing first-
I am from Mississippi graduating from Mississippi State University and preparing to leave in August of this year to travel to 11 different countries within 11 months. I have the best friends, parents, siblings, and dog (Sadie- sorry Ross but I’m claiming her too). I like coffee, books, The Office, and that sort of thing. And now, I’m going on the World Race.
So, why the World Race? Why leave for 11 months and go, give up all perceived normality, and agree to unknown in a field of service with peeps I don’t know?
Oddly enough, the world race has been on my brain & heart for quite some time now. Nothing sounds quite as intriguing as 11 new cultures and 11 new places to experience and share life. Also, nothing really sounds as scary as removing myself from the people I love the most for 11 months, missing out on 11 months of what I know, and missing out of 11 months of life with my people. It is a large sacrifice to get up and go- away from friends, family, and the community that I have been with in college for the past 4 years. I know that I will miss things, but I feel my calling to serve here is bigger. I have wrestled and listened and waited and said yes and said no and finally said yes again to really committing to this.
So, I’m really in, I’m really saying yeah, and I’m really ready to see what this next part of my life will hold. And here we go, starting in August, to Chile, Peru, Colombia, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
I’ll end this by saying thanks for taking the time to read this! I know I probably made the English majors, minors (hey dad), and teachers cringe, but overall, I’m just thankful you were interested enough to read some of my thoughts. If you would like to follow me on this journey, all you have to do is subscribe and you will receive updates as I go. Any prayers are always always appreciated, and if you have any questions or want to chat about this, give me a call!
