Last month my team and I had a lot of our ministry in an area where 98.5% of girls were sexually assaulted by the age of 12. Month 2 has taken us to, Jaco(Haco), Costa Rica, a place where sex is very prominate and there is a lot of prostitution among the people here.
We are very fortunate to be working with an organization called Oceans Edge which wants to partner with local businesses to better the image of Jaco. Along with that we are working with the Government to build a park for a small town called la Playa Azul, translated Blue beach. This town doesn’t have very much and so we want to build a park for the kids. A few of my squadmates one day went and vision casted for this project last week. They came up with some really cool ideas and my friend Rachel wrote a blog about the vision here.
Her vision for the park was to use old donated tires to build an obstacle course with a tire swing and make the place the kids wanted to go and play. Unfortunately the Government has its own ideas about what the park should be. They would like the park to have a soccer and volleyball court with the old tires set in trenches for parents to watch their kids play. This is very disappointing to us because we think the kids should want to come and play and have fun. I Instead it looks like the park is just going to be another place parents and take their kids so that they don’t have to watch them as closely as they might otherwise.
Things you can be praying for is obviously the park in La Playa Azul. We are hoping to raise a little bit of money for that project so we can at least put in a tire swing if you would like more information on that please let me know in the comments or shoot me an email via the contact link on the left side of the page. You can also be praying for the businesses that we are partnering with to try and make Jaco a better place and shine more as a town where there is light and not a place known for its darkness. Praise the Lord for all that he has done to get me here. I have hit my September deadline of $13,000 and am now working toward being fully funded by November.
