It’s been about 60 hours since my squad has left Atlanta, GA and we have witnessed so many occurrences of people serving each other and other people being served. Service is something very intentional where one acts in a manner that benefits another. Service ranges from having a car repaired to being vulnerable and listening well in a one-on-one conversation. Service looks different every time it occurs.
As a Storyteller leader for my team, I am expected in my role to lead a team time to encourage and support my teammates to tell their story, and if not their story someone else’s story on their behalf. This week, I asked my teammates to reflect on a time that they have served or been served since we left Launch about 60 hours ago. Considering we have had a lot of downtime since arriving in the Dominican Republic, I don’t think that anyone would have expected us to serve those that are here or around us.
So, here are some ways that I have served since we left Atlanta:
- I played with two young children in the airport for a couple hours during our really long delay to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic,
- I helped wash the dishes after breakfast this morning, and
- I have led a team time.
But, there have been literally so many more times that I have been served since leaving Atlanta:
- I was served both lunch yesterday and today by TWO DIFFERENT people,
- My team leader intentionally checked in with me as far as how I am taking care of my physical needs as far as my allergies/sickness is concerned,
- I have received some really great feedback,
- I was blessed by letters that loved ones have written in me and marking the quoted/referenced verses in my new blog,
- I was given water on a long hot bus ride from the airport to our ministry site,
- I was allowed to hang out in people’s hammocks, and
- Possibly most importantly, I have been prayed over numerous times.
It’s easier to miss the moments where you can be and ARE BEING Jesus for others, so I want to challenge you to reflect on the times that you have been served and have served in the past 60 hours over reading this AND THEN drop it in the comments below!
Hasta luego,
Angie Moore
Prayer Requests:
- Continued improvement of my physical health,
- Opportunities to be pushed deeper into the things that discomfort me, and
- More financial support still aiming to be fully funded by November 30, and
- The restoration of health and relationships of our ministry hosts as they experienced and are experienced unexpected illness in their family.
Praise Reports:
- We made it safely to the Dominican Republic,
- We have some very calm days as we are transitioning from our old normals to our new normals, and
- Lajas de Yaroa experienced quite a bit of rain on Friday, August 10 (this area, and potentially the country, has been experiencing a draught).
