Hello and welcome to the blog!
My name is Megan Becker, I’m 22 and I just graduated with a degree in Art Education. I’ve lived in Wisconsin my entire life and have a wonderful family who are some of my biggest supporters in life!
I’m on the left, then it’s my brother Jacob, my mom Denee, my dad Bill, my sister Emily and some adorable Haitian boys who were helping us lay the foundation for a church.
A huge passion of mine is teaching art and working with little kiddos, and adults! In the past year or so I had the opportunity to teach art at a county jail, teach K-5 art in an after school program, and to teach art to adults with disabilities. These experiences taught me a lot and made me realize how much I enjoy helping people learn and grow. Another passion of mine is being outside, and I especially enjoy backpacking and rock climbing. I’m a firm believer that people grow through experiences and stepping outside their comfort zone, which is why I love backpacking and rock climbing so much. (I’m afraid of heights)
This is me on top of Mount Temple in Canada being happy/terrified/exhausted all at the same time. (mostly happy)
Going on the world race is completely outside my comfort zone, but I’m excited for the challenge. I grew up going to church and going on mission trips, but each mission trip I went with people I knew and each was a week or less. In 2016 I went on a mission trip to Haiti with my family which was a life changing experience and got me more interested in the World Race. I heard about the World Race over a year ago, but I decided it wasn’t for me because it seemed crazy! The World Race is an 11-month mission trip to 11 different countries.
I kept getting this feeling that I needed to step outside my comfort zone but I ignored it, and in my last semester of college I started applying to jobs. However, God kept pushing me towards the World Race, so I decided to walk away from my comfortable easy life to go serve others. In January I will be going to Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, India, Nepal, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Uganda. I will be working with local communities and churches to help woman and children trapped in prostitution as a result of human trafficking, work in orphanages, plant churches, and much more.
As I’m preparing for the trip, I’m very excited, but also nervous. Besides going to Haiti, I’ve never been to any of these countries, I’m not going with anyone I know, I don’t really know what to expect, I feel under qualified, and I have to raise $18,100. I know that I can’t do this alone and would love/need prayers and support! However, I’m so excited for this opportunity and I can’t wait to be able to serve others ever day on the world race!
