A few days ago my squad and I decided to do a challenge called “wholesome talk.” The rules are:
1. No foul language
2. No gossiping
3. No sarcastic remarks towards a person
4. No complaining
5. No talking about inappropriate things
If we do hear someone breaking the rules then we kindly remind them about the “wholesome talk”.

My team of 6 has been doing it for a few weeks now and since we knew our squad of 22 would be together in Nicaragua, we invited them to join us!

I know this challenge might sound a little elementary cause culture teaches us “Adults can say whatever they want”. But when you think about it, how many times have you been hurt by someone’s words, gossip or sarcastic jokes? Imagine how awesome it would be if you lived in a community where you weren’t talked about behind your back.

Ephesians 4:29 teaches us: “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be encouragement to those who hear them.”

If our question is, how big of a deal is blank sin in my life then we’ve got it all wrong. What we should really be asking ourselves is, “Will I be more like Christ if I stop blank sin?”

I started thinking about the things in my life that I haven’t stopped because I didn’t think they weren’t a big deal. Movies, tv shows, and books that have bad content in them. Saying something about someone that I would never say to their face. Complaining about the little things. I asked myself if I’m willing to give those things up. The answer is yes. I don’t want to ever be fooled again into thinking the small things don’t matter because they do. Christ died for all sins and that’s nothing I should take lightly.

So, I challenge you to examine yourself and the things you can throw off to be more like Christ. I also invite you to join my squad and I in the wholesome talk challenge. Comment below if you decide to join us!
