“I’ve been praying, and God has told me that he wants our team to stay an extra day after everyone heads to the city to stay the night in a hostel, the night before we fly out for India. I don’t want you to answer right now, but I want you to pray into this.”

These are the words Rebecca spoke to us towards the end of our time in Myanmar. Crossing the border into Myanmar was tiring enough with carrying all our stuff across, but on top of that we had more long bus rides, which meant more squatty pottys, more odd sleep situations and more waiting around. Our first night in Myanmar we stayed at a hostel until our host picked us up the next morning and it could not have been a better blessing. I looked so rough, and the smell radiating from my body was something indescribable. I spent ample time in the shower, washing my hair, scrubbing behind my ears, and rubbing my feet raw to feel clean again.

The month in Myanmar consisted of bucket showers out of a large water basin in the woods, sleeping pads, molding clothes; packs, and food, with squatty pottys and humid weather that kept us sweating at all times. None of this is to say that our site was bad, because it was awesome, but it is to show you the reality of our situation, and how we still found joy no matter our circumstances, and we still listened for the voice of the Lord. Our original plan was to return to the hostel a day before flying out to India to get a good shower, a nice bed, and some wifi before switching countries. But the Holy Spirit had other plans.

We as a team prayed and trusted that whatever the Spirit wanted us to stay for, was important whether or not we saw the fruit of it. We put our trust in the Lord, gave up a nice bed to sleep in, and a warm shower after a month of not being actually clean, and decided we were going to wash the students feet and prophesy over them.

It ended up being one of my most favorite nights, and the Lord revealed so much to us about the students there, and the things he is going to do throughout the nation of Myanmar. It was so encouraging, not only for the students but for us. We were able to experience the spirit and let him move in whatever way he wanted. We spent an extra day with our amazing hosts, and the incredible students there.

Myanmar holds an extremely special place in my heart, and in my prayers. I hope that one day I can return, and once again be a witness to what the Spirit can do in Myanmar.

Love,
Alisha
