Something I have noticed in the Malawian culture is how welcoming everyone is. Every time we enter into a place whether it be a home, school, or church, the first thing our host will say is “You are welcome.” Their welcoming spirit is already evident with warm smiles and prolonged handshakes, but still every time it is confirmed through the three words, “You are welcome.”
I found this gesture odd at first because it’s just not something you hear in our culture. The fact that your guest is welcome is kind of implied since you have already invited them in. Now I really appreciate this affirmative phrase and have found myself saying it.
God is teaching me that He does the same for us. He invites us into His presence with a warm, glowing smile and not just a handshake, but an embracing hug. He desperately wants to be in ultimate communion with us. His welcome is so evident. This is a God who sent His blameless Son to die the ultimate death in our place for our sins so that we can be in His presence.
For those who think the Father does not want relationship, you need to stop believing lies from the enemy. If you feel disconnected from God, maybe you’re holding onto something that is blocking you from Him. If you can’t hear His voice, maybe you’re talking too much instead of listening. I am certain there is nothing holding Him back from wanting to be in full communion with you.
Every morning I am greeted with the Lord’s radiant jubilance because of my desire to spend time with Him. I hear Him say, “Abigail, you are welcome.” We spend time together talking about our dreams and desires. I tell Him my hurts and He comforts me. Sometimes we chat about His promised blessings of my future and sometimes He tells me to be patient and present. He always tells me I’m beautiful and strong and that He’s so very proud of me. Then He begins to teach me. I dig into His word and He reveals more to me every day. I ask questions, He answers. Not only do I feel welcome, but I am constantly told I am welcome through His affirming words. He is with me all day, every day.
This is true communion with the Lord. I am welcome and so are you.
