In my real life I’m an elementary special education teacher.
So I figured I would start off my blog with the 5 W’s.
Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.
WHO is going?
Shannon.
For more information, please read the About Me section.
WHAT is The World Race?
An 11 month mission trip to 11 countries around the world.
I will be living out of a backpack and serving with a team of people who have followed God’s calling on their lives to bring His good news to the nations. It is an adventure rooted in so much faith and probably a lot of bugs.
WHEN are you going?
January 2016. So soon!
WHERE are you going?
The world.
Seriously.
Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, and Argentina.
WHY would you do this?
Simple. God told me to.
No, not audibly. Not in cloud writing. Not with a neon sign. But have you ever felt a tug on your heart that makes all of your insides feel restless and nothing feel right until you pay attention to it? That’s what this was like.
For four years I have thought about this opportunity. I have been too afraid to commit for a long time, but I couldn’t take it any more. God called me to go. And ignoring it only made me more complacent. Deciding to leave my home and follow Him is the most right I have felt in a long time, knowing that I am living out the purpose He specifically made me for.
Plus, I would really like to hold a baby tiger and ride an elephant.
HOW are you going to do this?
I have a long 8 months of preparation ahead of me.
This time includes lots of prayer, vaccinations, shopping for gear, and awful mugshot passport photos. Thankfully The World Race has placed me with a great group of people to take on this adventure. But I need all the help I can get! I’ll periodically be posting fundraisers on this page and other ways you can support me if you choose.
$16,562 is a lot of money to raise, but I know that God is my provider. He has called me to go, he has called others to give, but regardless, he has called us all to make disciples of all nations.
