This past week our squad had 4 month debrief.
Debrief is where staff from the organization I am with, AIM, come out to us and they do a check up. Making sure we are doing well physically, mentally and emotionally. And also to help us stayed fired up while changing the world.
One afternoon I was talking to one of the staff members, Tim, and we were just sharing each other’s hearts with one another. He brought up the fact that his father has been there for everything and for his major decisions in life. As we were talking I started to think about my father and how he has been the same to me. And also a great man he is and continues to be. How he is a great supporter, mentor and friend to me.
So here’s a letter I wrote for him.
Dear Dad,
Thank You! You have been there for me from the very beginning and are always there no matter what. You have become one of the greatest role models in my life and I will always look up to you and come to you for advice no matter what. Thank you for being an amazing man of God that I can look up to and portray.
You have always provided for our family no matter the cost. When we’ve asked for bread you never gave a stone, but always bread. There has always been food on the table, a roof over our head and clothes on our back. The main necessities in life that we tend to take granted for. Sometimes it was easy, other times not so much. Thank you for also providing things when times were tough, Christmas, Birthdays, School years… you’ve always bent over backwards for us and will continue to do so.
Thank you for being a direct example of what it means to be a man after God’s own heart. You have shown me what a man of character is, also a true man of Honor. Thank you for showing me what a real husband looks like and how he treats her wife. How you love your wife just as Christ loves the church. I know that when I get married I’ll have plenty to look back on. Thank you for showing your failures and not being afraid to admit that you have made mistakes from time to time, but your successes outweigh your failures any day.
Thank you for showing me what it’s like to spend time with our creator. Our true Heavenly Father. Every morning, you make sure you spend that time and that is something I will constantly take with me and mirror for my life. There is so much passion and fire in your life that is unquenchable. Keep pressing your eyes towards that goal. There is still so much that is on you and that God has for you. As my future get’s going, I am excited to see yours continually bloom. There is still so many places that God want's to take you.
Again, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything. Words cannot express how much I love you.
A true Father, who represents the Heavenly Father.
