Sitting here in Guatemala on my last official day of ministry here, and i still don't know what to say about the past month. My team and I have been working on an unique ministry this past month called "Unsung Heroes." We have been assigned the task of finding the unsung heroes of Guatemala and Central America in general. We have spent more time in front of our computers than any of us planned when we signed up for the race. We have at times felt like instead of being on a mission trip to the nations we were at a 9-5 job back in the states. We ave had moments of being irritable and crabby. But in the end I am thankful for this past months ministry. It has provided the opportunity to meet people that we would not have met if we had a more 'typical' ministry such as an orphanage or clinic. It has taught me lessons in working with each other to trust God to get the B-Hag's (Big Hairy Ambitious Goal) completed. Because of this ministry we have had the opportunity to see Volcano Fuego erupt while in Antigua meeting a contact. Three of my teammates had the opportunity to head to the jungle of Guatemala and meet several contacts there. And even though it has been stressful somedays I am so thankful that God gave us this opportunity.

A very rough overview of Guatemala:

We arrived into Guatemala City on Sept 8th and we spent the night at a hosts house. From their we took a bus for several hours to Santa Cruz del Quiche. After arriving in Santa Cruz we set up our tents and found out what our ministries for the month were going to be. My team was based at the central location for our squad so we didn't leave frequently. We did head to Antiqua on Sept 13th and saw the volcano erupt, as well as portions of my team making smaller excursions. We took a retreat weekend at Lago de Atitlan (Lake Atitlan) It was absolutely 100% the most gorgeous place I have ever seen. While there we went cliff jumping and swimming in the lake as well as mountain climbing. After getting back from the retreat some of us fought of illness and other things. And it has just been an extremely glorious month that has been difficult to put into words.
