Do – “perform, work on, make or have available and provide, solve, work out, produce or give a performance of, travel, achieve, spend, act or behave in a specified way, make progress, result in, have a specified effect, convict, carry out, undertake, execute, accomplish, behave, meet one’s needs, get ready, see to, arrange, create, produce, turn out, design, manufacture, paint draw, sketch, arrange, adjust, take part in, participate in, resolve, figure out, succeed, prosper, etc.”
There are so many words associated with the word “do.” It can mean so many things to so many people; and THAT is why love does. Love comes in so many forms, and means something different to everyone, but the one thing in common with all of people’s perspectives is that love is active.
These past few days I have had the honor to get to meet and start to know L Squad. I have been able to distinguish their faces and names, I have been able to laugh and have deep conversations with them, and I have been able to answer a lot of questions they have had about me. Not for the sake of saving me time, but for the sake of sharing my answers with YOU have I decided to post this little FAQ. I hope that it reveals more of my heart for the love that I am attempting to put in to action:
Q: So, you were only home for one month between finishing the World Race and squad leading again! That’s crazy! How do you feel about it?
A: Great! I have come to realize that love does not involve remaining stagnant in my personal life. I knew that keeping the momentum and the growth that the Lord had given me on my World Race would be crucial. I could not waste the acceleration. The momentum was pushing me closer to the Lord and closer to my role in the kingdom. Also, what better way to use this love that I have for people and the nations than to continue doing what I enjoy?
Q: You were only home for such a short amount of time! How did your parents feel about that?
A: When I first told my parents that I was going to be alumni squad leading, they were glad I had found a next step. They almost immediately returned with “so when will you be heading out again?” I responded, slightly sheepishly, with “one month, but I will actually only be home for about ten days.” There was a little pause in the conversation, and then all I got in return was “ten days?” I assume it was a little bit of a shock to them, and they were not expecting a rapid turn around rate, but I told them it was what the Lord was calling me to do. From then on, they have trusted I was following the Lord and what I had to do – love.
From what I have encountered in my life, I have realized that “doing” things is so important in showing love. Whether it is performing in a skit about the Jonah and the whale, working on a spreadsheet to steward my money well for my supporters, hugging and playing with orphans in Cambodia, or anything else; if you love someone, you will do something about it. You will make those calls, put yourself in uncomfortable positions, and push yourself beyond your limits because love is stronger. God saved us and is longing to see us use love for His kingdom. I am using this love to serve the World Race, what can you do with the love that the Lord has given you?
