This month my team & I were assigned unsung heroes, which means we have been traveling around Malawi looking for ministries for future world racers to partner with. So far this month has been full of depending on the Lord and seeing his blessings pour out as we have met amazing people who are doing wonderful things around Malawi for the kingdom. Here are some of this ministries we have learned about and made contact with :
Live Love/HOWMS:
Live Love and HOWMS are two inspiring ministries in Lilongwe run by people who care deeply for the people in the surrounding villages.
Live Love goes into the villages and provides activities and programs for the children who do not get to participate in many activities otherwise. They teach the children songs, play games, have teachings, and develop relationships within the community. One way they get the community involved is through sports ministry, teaching how games are played, and providing equipment to play the sports. This brings the community out together and allows joy to be spread throughout the village.
Partnering with Live Love is a new ministry called HOWM. The name stands for Homes for Orphans and Widows Ministry. This ministry has been around for 3 months and started when a man named Gret saw a need for an old woman in the village to have a home. He raised $800 from his supporters and had a home built for her and had prayer over the home before she moved in. Since then he has had more houses made and prayed over throughout the village.
These ministries actively seek the needs in the villages and have a heart to share the love of God with them as well as providing for their physical and emotional needs as well.
Children of Blessings:
Children of blessings was founded by a woman named Kathy who moved to Malawi 18 years ago in hopes of using her gifts of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy to benefit this nation. They are located in Lilongwe, Malawi and have been around since 2009. This ministry supports supports children and adults with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. They have a preschool of about 75-100 children in hopes of educating them well enough to send them to public school. The preschool children are cared for Monday-Friday by certified teachers who work with the children. In addition to the preschool there are classes for babies-preschool that help children with disabilities work on their gross motor schools such as sitting, standing, muscle growth, and other various stretching. This school is run by sponsorships. Each child who is sponsored gets the schooling and medical care every child deserves to have.
Many children live far away from the main base so Children of Blessings has provided bicycles for the mothers to allow them to get to school every day. They also have branched out and opened 12 mini clinics in 12 villages surrounding Lilongwe.
Flood church:
Flood Church is a non-denominational church in the heart of Lilongwe, Malawi. Flood Church Malawi is a sister church of Flood Church in San Diego, California. Through this partnership, Flood Church Malawi has built itself as an impactful, life changing light for Jesus Christ. Flood Church is a diverse family of believers; Malawians worship alongside missionaries from all over the world. Flood Church is lively, active, and growing.
Flood Church has a strong student ministry. Malawi has a large population of adults 35 years old and younger, and Flood Church feels called to reach the many young people of Malawi. Flood Church has a presence on many college campuses throughout Malawi, including the College of Nursing, College of Health Services, and African Bible College. The Church leads discipleship seminars, leaderships conferences, holiday celebrations, and many other events on college and academy campuses throughout Lilongwe.
Flood Church Malawi has an exciting internship program, as well. Flood Church Malawi sends four Malawian youth from within the church to spend three months working at Flood Church San Diego, and in turn, Flood Church San Diego sends four youth to work with Flood Church Malawi. This cross-cultural experience is just one of the many ways that Flood Church is seeking to uniquely impact the world for the Kingdom.
Flood Church is bringing God’s truth and love to the people of Lilongwe. The members of Flood Church are exceptionally loving, hospitable, caring and helpful; the Lord blessed our World Race team immensely through the people of Flood Church. Please be in prayer for the Church as they begin the exciting process of starting a second Sunday morning service. The Church is growing and God is moving through His people.
These are just a few of the amazing ministries we hope to partner with in the future. Join us in prayer as we pray for these ministries in what they are doing for Malawi & their involvement with the world race!
