The Reality of Wealth:
Low Income, $825 or less per year: 37% of the world
Lower Middle Income, $826 to $3,255 per year: 38% of the world
Upper Middle Income, $3,256 to $10,065 per year: 9% of the world
High Income, $10,066 or more per year: 16% of the world
The Reality of lostness: Right now there are over 4.5 billion people in the world today on a road that leads to eternal hell. There are 16,351 people groups in the world, and 6,645 of them are unreached with the Gospel! Roughly 4000 of those are unengaged meaning no one is trying to get the Gospel to them!
The Reality of Poverty: Today, over 1 billion people live (and die) in desperate poverty (less than $1 a day). 700 million people in slums. 500 million people on the verge of starvation. 200 million children exploited for labor. Close to 2 billion others live on less than $2 a day.
“In the early 1990s, Americans spent annually twice as much on cut flowers as on overseas Protestant ministries, twice as much on women’s sheer hosiery, one and a half times as much on video games, one and a half times as much on pinball machines, slightly more on the lawn industry, about five times as much on pets, one and a half times as much on skin care, almost one and a half times as much on chewing gum, almost three times as much on swimming pools and accessories, approximately seven times as much on sweets, seventeen times as much on diets and diet-related products, twenty times as much on sports activities, approximately 26 times as much on soft drinks, and a staggering 140 times as much on legalized gambling activities.”
Craig Blomberg
Lord open the eyes and hearts of your people to see the reality of these numbers and give us the grace to do somthing about it!
