Launching to our first stop has been an amazing experience! Before departing, we were set up with safety and risk training to prepare us for the unexpected. Our hearts were filled with fellowship and community worship. After a proper goodbye to America(Starbucks and Burger King), we set off for seventy-two hours of travel. It was long and exhausting, but my new friends made it super weird and fun. When we got to Bangkok I realized that the airline left my bag in Singapore. Thankfully, we had a long layover and they were able to fly my bag in before we left for our final stop. After many cramped hours in trains, buses, and airplanes, we finally reached our new home in Chang Mai! We are living in a beautiful hostel with showers, bathrooms, and Wifi. There is even a trendy little coffee shop on the first floor were I will try not to blow all my money. Our first full day in Chang Mai was wonderful! I got to know my new neighborhood by getting groceries in the mall right next-door. The produce section was so wild and I decided to pick up some ramen and a mango. For lunch I ate authentic pad thai and got to practice the language. I got some funny looks so I think I might be saying things wrong. My teammate, Rosie, and I walked around some cute little jewelry shops and decided to get some smoothies. We forgot they have ice in them until after ordering them and migggght have still drank them (sorry, Mom). Rosie, Courtney, and I got Thai massages. THAT was interesting. They get all in your business and stand on you! I won’t lie though, I felt so good leaving the salon! I wasn’t that hungry for dinner, but I tagged along with some friends to explore a street food market across the street. There was some standard Thai food and so much more, like ostrich and scorpion. I went to sleep satisfied. I can already tell Chang Mai is going to be good to me and I am so excited to find out what ministry will look like for the next two months.
