I’m sorry for the huge gaps in between my blogs, but here is my favorite day. My team decided to do ministry at the bus rink in Gaberone, when we got there we split up individually without getting to far from each other. I talked to one man about church, it ended up being a really great conversation. After we prayed together he went and grabbed a woman from nearby, she came over and sat down right next to me. This women started talking to me about a dream where she had left danger and came to some “white people”. She shared that seeing my team prayig urged the need in her to talk to at least one of us because in her dream God told her to. She went on to tell me about how sometimes she “skipped days”. I was confused by what she meant so I asked a few more questions about this. She shared that some days she would have pains in her whole body that would cause her to lose all ability to function. She was in so much pain she couldn’t sleep or eat, see or hear. I can’t imagine the pain she must of been in. She said that sometimes the pain could last up to 4 months. I got to pray over her for healing, for a son, for a God-fearing man to come and take care of their son. She was an incredible woman. After this conversation I headed off for lunch.
My team agreed to do ministry at the mall across the street for the evening. We walked around praying and waiting for the Holy Spirit to lead us where He needed us to go. Our squad leader Zack waved at a few young people, they waved back so we took this as an opportunity to go talk to them. As we headed that way, a man stopped just a couple of us. We stopped to talk to him while the other group went on to chat with the other group. Alyssa, Kelly, and I took a seat and the man began asking questions. He asked if we were missionaries, we were all taken back thinking “how could this man know?”. We asked and he replied, “I could just tell”. He shared that he had already met another group of missionaries that were supposed to meet up with him again after a while but things came up within the group and they couldn’t come back to see him. They wrote about him on their website, they shared that he did not accept Christ in his heart. It made him angry since he was a born again christian and had been for many years. The only thing he asked questions about was how to become a missionary. If he were to become a missionary he would be a 4th generation in his family. How cool? We talked to him for about an hour before he had to run off to a business meeting. We asked if he would be able to meet with us in about an hour after his meeting, he kindly agreed. In that hour I prayed to God to give me words for this man. The words I got for him was that mission work isn’t always giving everything up and moving to the bush of Africa. That’s just one specific way to do it. I got to share the story of my two knee surgeries and how my doctor prayed over me before I headed in for the surgery. He was really receptive to my story. The thing I enjoyed most was getting to work and walk alongside my teammates while we talked to this man. The man we were talking to was very intelligent and asked some really hard questions but every time one of us stood their stumped, another one of us would have an answer. When we were finished talking I asked for the man’s name to which he replied “Good Head”. Zack came and sat at our table and started talking to Good Head. This man shared that we had helped him crack a major nut. He felt as though he could start on his walk in what the Lord had been asking of him. After leaving the conversation, I had never felt like my words had so much power from God in my entire life. Talking to Good Head was just the encouragement I needed.
