It was June 15, 2013 and my team and I were meeting up for a day of preparation and organization getting ready to leave for our mission trip to Costa Rica. We would catch a red eye flight to Houston and then a flight from Houston to San Jose Costa Rica where we would then take a bus to a little town outside San Ramon called Bajo Tejares.
My team of 18 students and 4 adults made that journey and everything went great, there were no problems, no bickering, no arguing, we all understood what was happening, the Lord was there and was ever present. This was a time when God really revealed himself to be real to me and was a present factor in the working of the world. I wanted more of Costa Rica and more of the Lord. In 2013 Costa Rica became a place that I will always remember and love.
Well I went back in 2014 and man did the Lord do some incredible stuff. Via a No-Hitter by Josh Beckett while I was at a church retreat leading up to the mission trip and then a No-Hitter by Clayton Kershaw the best pitcher in baseball. At the time I didn’t miss a Dodger game for anything except church related events it was to random to be a coincidence and I was full of the Spirit. I told myself I would find my way back to Costa Rica after that trip.
Well I found my way back in 2018 via The World Race a little more than 4 years after I left the last time. Via some hard questions and some really good conversations with God and others. I have came to the conclusion that I have let my feelings be the driving force of my actions most of the time and that is not good. God has used Costa Rica in so many ways in my life and now I believe he is starting to close the book on Costa Rica and will be teaching me new things in Nicaragua and beyond.
