Kenya Dig It
I came here to give,
But I’m on the take.
I came here to build,
But I’m on the make.
I came here to grow,
Before I had even planted a seed.
I came here to show,
What I hadn’t even seen.
I came here just a body,
Now I have soul.
I came here a piece,
Now I am whole.
I came here to talk,
Now I’m ready to listen.
I came here to find
The purpose I’ve been missin’.
I came here empty,
And now I am filled.
I came here to love,
And now I am loved.
I wrote this poem mid-way through my first mission trip to Kenya. First mission trip in general actually. These words poured out easier than most. For the first time in my life I truely opened up to the love of God. I thought I knew what I was getting into by going to Africa, I thought that I had a good grip on my life… I was so wrong. I consider this trip to one of the best things to ever happen to me. God woke me up, he broke me down, and helped me to stand back up. This time standing on a strong foundation, the Lord Almighty.
I was asked to read this poem to my church upon our return home. I've never been a great public speaker so I was very nervous. That moment of reading the poem aloud was a experience I will always cherish. It was very powerful to proclaim my love for Jesus Christ publicly and infront of all my family and peers. This poem will forever have a special place in my heart.
