Inspiration is one of those things that can come in all shapes and sizes and formats. You can be looking for it and you may not be and happen to stumble upon it. The race has been a number of stumbling upon it but never once do I regret it or anything of that nature.
Last month I received a message from a friend of mine that told me to watch a CT Fletcher video. Now CT Fletcher isn’t exactly what I would play out loud because of his vocabulary but he is someone that has inspired millions including myself. He’s a former bodybuilder and power lifter and founder of Iron Addicts. He’s known as the Superman from Compton, and he once held many world records, one of them for strict bicep curl at 225 lbs!
All this hard work was followed by years and years of bad diets and eventually lead to heart issues to the point of him lying on his death bed at the age of 46. But that didn’t stop him, he defied all odds with his comeback. 12 years later he goes into cardiac arrest and doctors had to perform emergency surgery installing a pace maker/defibrillator. At 59 years old his heart was in such bad condition he recently went into surgery for a much needed heart transplant.
For years the doctors told him to stop working out but he never did for several reasons. In the video, the same man I watched to pump me up before a gym session, explained he couldn’t even do a single push up. The same man that once held the world record for bench press three times, explained how heart broken he was when he needed help getting dressed and showered. It was heart breaking to watch this inspirational, tattoo covered, mean looking muscle head Superman get emotional.
He told his fans that he didn’t want them to ever stop what they were doing, to keep pushing on. You know why? Because he wasn’t going to. In that same video he says “Why would I open up myself to you?! Because I’ve learned the real important thing is to touch people.” That’s what’s important! CT says the message is simple “If God can use that poor abused kid from Compton, the lowest of the low, if he can take that army veteran and use him, if he can take that guy who defied all the odds and use him, then he can dang sure use me(talking about you)!”
We’re traveling the world for 11 months, yeah we post cool things on social media and yeah we will come back with hundreds of stories to tell but that’s not what matters. What matters is touching the people we meet, what matters is making an impact in the lives of the people around us. You don’t have to spend 11 months of your life on a mission trip to do that. You can do that in your own neighborhood, at your work place or even at the gym your at. There’s no excuse out there as to why we can’t make a difference in somebody’s life right now.
