At launch each Racer was given a key which was prayed over and contained a prophetic word of something we were going to grow into this year.  Once we discover what it means to live out our key, we are supposed to give it to someone whom the Lord leads us to so that they can learn to live out the prophetic word on the key.  The word I received on my key was “Son.”

Fast forwarding to last night when me and my team were discussing what Jesus was calling us into as we begin our World Race, I heard the Lord tell me that my identity should be found only in Him and not in what other people think of me.  I tend to find security and comfort in being a people-pleaser as well as in others thinking highly of me.  This year the Lord is calling me to let go of my false identity and to grasp hold of my Identity as the beloved son of my Heavenly Father.

Answer me when I call to you, O God who declares me innocent.  Free me from my troubles.  Have mercy on me and hear my prayer.  Psalms 4:1

But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.  I cried out to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy mountain.  I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the Lord was watching over me.  I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies who surround me on every side.  Psalms 3:3-6

I have been reading through the Psalms, and I have been inspired by the way David talks to our Father.  He is bold and unwavering in his requests (Psalms 4:1), and he does not doubt for one second that God will deliver him from his enemies (Psalms 3:3-6).  David’s prayers are coming from a place of deep security in his identity as a son of God.

As I continue my World Race, my biggest hope is to grow in my identity as God’s son.  I long to walk in intimacy and trust with the Father just like David did.  I want to be filled so full with His love that I cannot help but have His love overflow into the lives of people around me.
