My family loves The Lord of the Rings. When Peter Jackson’s first movie came out in 2001 I was 10 years old. The rule in our house was that if you wanted to see the movie, you had to read the book first.
It was around this time that my mom asked me a question. “Why do you think Frodo can carry the ring when nobody else can?”
I had no idea what to say then. But now, 14 years later, after reading LOTR about 10 times. I stumbled upon this quote:
“He wished with all his heart that he was back there, and in those days, mowing the lawn or pottering among the flowers, and that had never heard of Moria, or mithril — or the ring.”
After visiting the elves, walking through glorious kingdoms, great halls, and witnessing incredible power and majesty and glory, all he cares about are simple things, like flowers and gardening.
Cool huh? That the one carrying the ring cares least about power and glory?
I think it relates to piece of wisdom that I heard recently, which is that God entrusts the most humble and the most servant-hearted with great tasks, because he knows they, of all people, will not stumble over power and fame.
So, if you feel small and insignificant, get ready! Because God has many great things left to do in the world, and he just might choose you to do it.
Blessings,
Zach
