Matthew 6:19-21 says, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For your heart will always pursue what you value as your treasure.”
Yeah yeah we’ve all heard the verse before but hold on and check this out real quick. I looked up the Greek word for “treasures,” which the New Testament is written in, and it defines it as being “a storehouse for precious things.” So I’m sitting here thinking okay I know treasures is like money right? I got to praying cause I couldn’t figure out what in the world else it could mean but I knew God wanted me to sit on this for a hot minute because He had more for me on this. And BAM! Jesus just started downloading everything He was trying to teach me in that moment.
We always go straight to money because that’s usually the easiest thing for us to grasp that we KNOW we hold too dear to our heart. While, yes, that is definitely one of them He’s got much more. What I held dear wasn’t just money, it was my precious time, my thoughts that said I can do anything on my own, my overwhelming attention to my own self-made inadequacies. Honestly the list can continue to go on but I will spare you the long drawn out details.
But when Holy Spirit began to reveal these things to me it changed everything for me. This was what made the decision for me to go on the World Race. I wasn’t blatantly saying, “God I don’t need you, I got this on my own but thanks anyways.” No that’s never our intention but as I reflected on my actions I realized that’s exactly what I thought. I made decisions based on what I knew I could do, NOT what I know God can do.
Folks, THIS IS CRIPPLING US! Guess what? There’s no single place in the Bible that God said, “hold up that’s too much I can’t do all that.” Joshua prayed that God would make the sun stand still while they fought their enemies and He did it. The sun did not go down until the nation of Israel reigned victorious over the five attacking armies coming against them. So if He did it for them, why can’t He do it for me? I love this quote by A.W. Tozer, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” One of the reasons it’s so important is because when you have an accurate understanding of God’s character then you would never need to rely on yourself. When we are weak God makes us strong! God WANTS us to dream big!
I’ve acknowledged that I can do nothing well without God. Sure, you can try but when you put Him in everything that you do wholeheartedly it will undoubtedly bring fruit! I knew going into this next journey that I have no idea what I’m doing and that for me to be able to do this, God has to show up. I know that God is going to take care of me, strengthen me, give me peace, and guide me through the next year regardless of whatever experience I’ve had. Jesus called twelve of the most unqualified people I could think of. They had no training, and that assures me that if he did it for them, He WILL do it for me too because He loves me just as He did his disciples!
Soooo that my friends is what I call a professional rabbit trail because I don’t know how I got here from where I started but I’m going to roll with it at this point!
What I’m trying to say here is we have to identify where our treasure is. They can be material possessions, they can be thoughts in your mind, they can be absolutely anything that you are putting a value on. Your heart goes after that which you value greatly. If you strongly value your appearance, a great deal of what you do will follow creating your ideal image. If you strongly value relationships, you will spend time investing into those relationships in one way or another. If you strongly value seeking God’s face and hearing His voice, you guessed it, you will DESIRE to spend time with Him and won’t give up no matter what just to have relationship with Him.
I want to leave my subscribers with a challenge as it has phenomenally changed my view of, well, pretty much everything I do. So I challenge you to spend some time prayerfully thinking about this one question, “Where does your treasure lie?”
**Prayer Requests**
I know that God has called me to go on this trip and I believe in the Great Commission to go and make disciples of every nation. That costs money and as much as I wish I could support it all myself, I unfortunately cannot so I that’s where I need your help. I don’t just want your money, that’s not my heart. I’m really looking for people that will be partners with me on this journey as I go to reach those without access to the gospel of Jesus Christ. So I humbly ask that you would prayerfully consider being a partner with me. I have a goal to get $4300 by December 21st to make my $10,000 goal before me and my squad leave in January. By the way it’s a completely tax-deductible donation if you support through the blog or mail in a check, so take advantage before the end of the year and get that tax write-off haha!
Also prayer for my team; Allie, Ashley, Susanna, Stone, and myself as we are preparing to leave in January. We have a lot of things we have to get done before then and it can be overwhelming at times so prayer for peace would be fantastic.
I want to thank everyone that has partnered with me financially, prayerfully, and encouragingly. I am so thankful for the supportive people that God has put in my path. Also, huge thanks to all my subscribers that are following me on this journey. I hope that at least at some point reading my blogs that God teaches you some things as He’s teaching me so that we may grow in Christ together! Don’t forget to share if you were touched by this or just want to get the word out on what God’s doing. Check out my contact page and give me call, email, or text, I’d love to talk with you or meet in person to share more of my story. Alright fam, thanks so much for reading and praying with me. Love y’all and I’ll catch ya next time. Peace!
