Do you struggle internally when you hear Holy Spirit tell you to go and do something? Honestly, I think that is something that a majority of us struggle with at first. But there’s a differentiation of types of people that I would like to point out. Not even types of people but mindsets that they have.
You have one type that hears Holy Spirit and then a flood of doubts come rushing in. They constantly worry about what if I get rejected, or what if they don’t care, or what if they don’t get healed, or what if they don’t understand English. Their fears and worries control them and they never get past that place. Let’s call it the “What If Mindset.”
You have another type of mindset that also doesn’t know why Holy Spirit is asking them to do a certain thing but they push past the worry and the what ifs and actually go do what He says. They understand the same potential outcomes that the what-ifers worry about but they have another take on the what if mindset. This mindset has the mind of Christ as defined in Colossians 3:2. It states, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” So they are not worried about their inner struggle of worries but have a heavenly mindset to touch people’s lives with the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ no matter the cost. We’re going to call this the “What If I Don’t Mindset.”
So now that we understand our two mindsets let’s go back to my initial question, “do you struggle when Holy Spirit tells you to do something?” I’d like to say a resounding, “no way I always follow when He tells me to do something.” But the reality is it’s not always comfortable. The danger though, is when you allow your desire for comfortability define what you do with your faith.
First, we must deny the desire of our flesh to be safe and not take a risk. You can be safe your whole life and have a normal life. But God does not want for us to remain at a base knowledge of Christ but He wants us to desire the fullness of who He is!
So deny your flesh its comforts, it’s safety, its selfish desires! Holy Spirit will guide you and not leave you astray, so follow Him! It’s so important for us to remember too, and we don’t say this much in church, but He is SO. MUCH. FUN. I mean, I have an incredible time when I actually say yes and go do the thing He asks me to.
So I challenge you… Take a risk! Step out in faith! REALLY love people like you’ve never loved them before! Have that “What If I Don’t Mindset!” Come in without judgement, understand them and their beliefs, and share the glorious Good News of Jesus Christ for that person. In Romans 2:4 Paul tells us that it is the kindness of God that brings men to repentance. So be kind, be love, be patient, be what that person needs that they would receive the incredible gift of Christ that is unconditional love and a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Let’s not wait for Christ to come back any longer! Let’s bring Kingdom here and now!
