Dear Eric,
Since Wednesday I have been at launch in Atlanta, Georgia. The non-profit I was telling you about AIM (adventures in missions) has done an incredible job at getting my team as prepared as possible for this Journey. These past three days have been long. There have been lots of meetings, which means lots of sitting. Don’t get me wrong these meetings are the reason that our team will be safe and effective for Christ overseas. I have never seen my team more ready to do God’s will then I have today.
This morning, in one of our meetings, we talked about what it means to be guided by the Spirit. This afternoon, AIM gave us an opportunity to exercise what we learned. They asked us to go into the community in Atlanta and be guided by the Spirit and obey as he directs. So my team left the Hotel by foot and walked the local community.
Eric, it was not by accident that you were walking into your house as we were walking by. It was not by accident that I started up a conversation with you. It was not by accident that I asked you to join us on our walk so we could talk more. When you said, “No” and we walked away something happened to me.
As soon as I turned the corner of your block, I heard the Spirit clearly tell me to go back to your house. I thought to myself at first, “Father, this must be an accident. He doesn’t want to talk to us and even if he did, I don’t know what I would say.” And immediately Eric, I heard God say, “That’s because you’re not going to be the one talking. I Am going to speak through you. I will guide you. I will strengthen you and I will give you the confidence and words you need to encourage my son Eric.”
How else did I know that you were from out of town? How else did I know that you were going into 10th grade? How else did I know that you had just recently retired from basketball? How else did I know, not just the fact that you played football, but your position as well?
I remember your face in awe, as I received these truths in your life from the Spirit and spoke them back to you. You looked at me as if I had been watching you for your entire life and waited till today to tell you. The truth is I’ve never met you until today. You’re from Michigan and I am from South Carolina.
The truth is my God does know you. Not only does He know you, but He made you. He has been watching you since He created you. He forgives you of your past mistakes. He has created you with a purpose. He wants you to get to know Him better. My God knows you and he LOVES everything about you!
It was not by accident that you had to leave with your family right after I told you, “My God is alive and He is real.” I know now, that it was not by accident that the Spirit guided me to write down this blog address. And Eric if you’re reading this right now, it is not by accident.
It was my pleasure meeting you today my man. I see a bright future for you. After all, with God our past never determines our future. You can experience how real He is today simply by asking Him to show you He is real. If you ever want to talk I’m here for you.
