Finally edited my first video!

I have to say, the first ministry my team partnered with, Remar Foundation, often felt “like a 9 to 5 job,” as my teammate Trey would say.

Remar’s portfolio of life-bringing ministries is extensive to say the least, yet our team rarely saw the big picture impact God had on Quito through the God-loving people at Remar.

Instead, my team went to the headquarters of Remar, where they had administration, a bakery, cleaning product factory, fast food cart, cafeteria, and dormitories for girls and families in need of a home. Everyday, they would have us sweep, clean something, help in the kitchen, paint, and the list goes on.

It was easy to feel like a janitor, which is the absolutely wrong way to look at ministry. Nonetheless, I am human; therefore, my thoughts aren’t always peachy.

I began seeking God in bigger ways because October was all squad month, and every time I came home to 55 people, there were amazing stories from fellow squadmates about something incredible God did through them, like the baby whose sight was restored at another ministry!

God taught me just how wrong my thinking was; without realizing it, I began pursuing God’s miracles rather than Him.

So I went back to pursuing my Father instead of his wondrous miracles.

During this time, I was reading through Matthew, and what really stood out was how Jesus came down and became a man in order to serve us. God, the author of the universe who only had to speak for life to come into existence, came down to make found the lost, and he came to serve us even though He deserves all the glory and praise of man: all because he loved us infinitely.

With that in mind, my view of serving at Remar changed: I no longer thought of how all the cleaning and sweeping we do felt like janitorial work; now, picking up dog poop was beautiful. Sweeping the same corridor over and over again was beautiful. Painting one room after the other was beautiful. Every task Remar gave us was beautiful because without our help, the people of Remar wouldn’t be able to rescue one other person stuck in drug addiction without purpose. They wouldn’t be able to teach one other woman the sewing skills she needed to support herself and her child on her own. And they simply would not be able to share the Gospel as widely without our team, whom God has sent to help them.

Like my Squad Coach Tom says, even the guy who swept at NASA was critical to the Space Race. That janitor knew his significance: “I’m helping to put a man on the moon.”

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
