Every Friday is our “evangelism” day, where we specifically share the gospel with groups of truckers. A lot of our other days are follow ups with people we talked to in the past as well as going to a few other ministries. Today, Ryan and I went with two guys from our ministry and evangelized to two groups of truckers.

The first group we came across were mostly Muslims, although one of them said he didn’t have any religion he believed in. As Jean Claude was starting a conversation with them, they seemed very open to hearing what we had to say. And then Jean Claude asked me to share about the gospel.

And so I did. I talked about how we are all sinners and imperfect people. And that God sent his son Jesus Christ to die for our sins and pay for all our debts. I shared a parable in the book of Luke and also a little bit of my testimony.

And the fruit that came from sharing the good news to these guys is that two of them accepted Christ in their lives. They took the first step in believing in their hearts and confessing with their mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. As we finished up, we prayed over them and said our goodbyes. Jean Claude gave them his contact info and information about the church services on Sundays.

As we continued on through the port, we came across two other truckers who kindly let us sit with them. These two were muslim and had heard the gospel the week before. Jean Claude again started a conversation and then asked Ryan to share a story from the Bible. After Ryan shared the story and how it relates to his life, Jean Claude asked them if they wanted to make a decision.

And they said no. They didn’t want to make a decision right now.

As we sat there for a little while longer and then proceeded to leave, I couldn’t stop thinking of why they said no. We shared from our heart and shared the good news about our God and our son Jesus. We used examples from the bible and shared testimonies of our own lives. And they still said no.

But after I processed it and really thought about it, we did what we were supposed to do. Our job is to share the gospel to these men, not to convert them into Christians. Yes, the ultimate goal is to build the family and kingdom of Christ believers, but that’s not our responsibility. Our role here on earth is to preach about the good news, to share our testimonies with others, and to allow others to see Christ in us. If we do all of that, we’ve done our job. And from there, God will do the rest. God will work in their heart, mind, and soul. The Holy Spirit will work in their lives. The Lord will convict them to become Christians.

The Lord works in mysterious ways and for the two guys who didn’t want to make a decision, maybe He has another plan. Maybe it’s not the right time for them to accept Christ. But because they said no, we didn’t fail. We prevailed in what we are supposed to do. We were bold and courageous just as our Lord asked us to be. And even when they say no, we will continue to evangelize to these truckers as that is what God has called us to do.

With love,

Will
