It’s crazy to think that I’ve been on the race for just over 100 days now. Through living in community and being challenged by certain situations, there have been countless opportunities for my personal growth in my walk with the Lord.
Over the past month, I’ve been learning and growing in being more intimate with the Lord. I’ve been going through a devotional called Listening Prayer and it’s been extremely helpful in showing me how to listen to the Lord as well as how to communicate with Him.
And as I’ve been learning about how to be more intimate with the Lord, I’ve been reflecting and studying on how intimate the Lord is with us.
We all know the story of Adam and Eve and how they disobeyed God in Genesis. And after the temptation by the serpent, it says in verse 8 and 9,
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid themselves form the Lord God among the trees of the garden. So the Lord God called out to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”.
What does God do in verse 8?
He’s walking in the garden. He’s looking for Adam and Eve.
When I typically think of God, I don’t necessarily think He needs to walk anywhere. He’s the almighty, powerful being and He can be in any place at any time. But that’s not what He does here. He walks toward them and shows them that He wants to find them and be with them.
He’s coming after them, meaning He’s coming after us. He’s chasing after me, looking for me, wondering where I am.
But then what does He say in verse 9?
The Lord God called out and asked a question. As I thought about this, I was thinking when someone asks a question, an answer is needed. So God asks this question, but do you think He really needs an answer?
Is He really looking for a response? I mean, He’s God, He knows everything and anything. He knows that Adam and Even disobeyed Him and are hiding from Him.
So why does he ask this question if he already knows the answer?
He used the question to call out to his people. He uses this as a beckoning call from His heart. Even though we’ve sinned and made mistakes, He wants to know us, to have a relationship, and to be intimate with us.
And so this had made me think, is my intimacy with the Lord the same as His intimacy with me?
Am I running toward God just as He is chasing after me?
So I’m challenging myself to chase after the Lord our God everyday. To press in to the uncomfortable, difficult times, and to be more intentional. To desire intimacy with the Lord just as He desires intimacy with me.
And to confidently answer, “God, here I am.”
Jeremiah 32:38
They will be My people and I will be their God.
