Hello Everyone! (This one is realllyyy short).
Yes, I am writing to you from Antigua Guatemala! This place is amazing!!!
First…I HAVE BEEN -OFFICIALLY- FULLY FUNDED FOR MY TRIP.
Thank you to all of you who have supported me, prayed for me, and have thought of me through this transition of life.
I can’t thank you enough. This trip, I already sense, will forever be etched in my soul. Not necessarily the beautiful mountains…and streets…and weather…
BUT THE PEOPLE.
I have found Guatemala to be most vulnerable place I have ever experienced.
When I was flying in, I could sense a change in the leadership and proclamation of what was to be in Guatemala and its inhabitants.
The airport wasn’t glamorous. (Broken down planes and warehouses out to welcome you to the capital of Guatemala).
The dogs were depressed. (Literally, they survive and exhibit a hostility I haven’t really ever seen in God’s creation before).
The streets were dirty. (Guatemala isn’t going green anytime soon).
But there is family. There is pride of culture and class. There is a connection here I haven’t ever felt in America.
These people live in houses the size of a parking a garage and look forward to eating the same meal day after day after day, but they have family, honor, and a sense of belonging we crave deeply as Americans.
The value of relationship here is so precious to the existence of Guatemalans, its far surpasses the idea of “having friends” back home.
In short, in the most poverty stricken people I’ve ever experienced, I have seen laughter, community, and belonging. Yet they still ache for the love of Jesus and I can’t wait to share with you what He does.
Love,
WIll
