Guatemala was the last country of my race and probably my favorite for so many reasons. I wrote about all the ways we were poured into at https://willholt.theworldrace.org/post/guac
We were so blessed to have been set up for success in the ways we were, whether that was the long term missionaries that were there for us, the church that we went to on Sundays, or the thriving community. I’m so thankful for literally everyone that I did the World Race with. We really became a family and I don’t think everyone gets to experience something like this, especially at my age. I really am thankful for everyone but specifically my team. Zahli, Laura, Annie, Dave, Nick, and Luke, I thank God for each of you for making the last leg of the race so special.
For ministry we were at an elementary school doing things around the school like helping the teachers or doing carpentry or helping with the garden. Sometimes we’d ask the Lord what He had for us in the town square, and that usually led to new friends, healing, and evangelism.
We made so many memories like 2 surf trips, a hike up the volcano and watching one erupt all night, weekend getaways to a hostel in Antigua, celebrating Semana Santa and Easter, and a week at lake Atitlán for final debrief. When the volcano eruption closed the airport, we got two more days on the race and spent it at a hotel.
And now, 9 months later, I’m home. It’s weird and difficult and challenging. In a lot of ways it feels like month 10 of the race, I feel like I’m in a new country and I’m uncomfortable all over again. But I’m hopeful, so hopeful and excited to see how the Lord shows up, like He has time and time again. Every time I open my camera roll on my phone or one of my World Race friends texts me, I’m taken back to probably the most rewarding 9 months of my life. Every time I think back my heart is in a season of thankfulness, for the good and even more the bad. So thank you to everyone who supported me, whether that be financially or even a short prayer my way, your support made a difference. I’m so excited for what the next season will bring!
