# 1: The first day that we were in Cajamarca we had the chance to explore. We went to the Stairway to Heaven which was a beautiful lookout of Cajamarca. This reminded me of standing at the top of the Duomo in Florence, Italy with a city below and beautiful mountains all around in the distance. Here is my team at the top!
# 2: This precious little boy is Emi. He was one of the youngest kids at the kids programs that we helped at in Cajamarca. We were able to shower the kids in candy, and as you can tell he LOVED his lollipop. The first thing Emi said to me was “¡ojos azules!” or “blue eyes.” He was so intrigued with my eyes because most people here have brown eyes.
# 3: For one of the filter sessions I was able to demonstrate how to use and take care of the filter. It was cool to see how intensely everyone was paying attention to the demonstration.
# 4: This photo makes me laugh every time I see it. For the final hoorah of the demonstration we dumped a few handfuls of dog pee infested dirt into the bucket with the filter on it and mixed it with unclean water. We showed how the filter actually worked, and our leader Andrew drank the water that we filtered. He is still alive and well, so we know that the filters work!
# 5: Here is a group shot at one of the filter sessions. Peruvians tend to show the least possible emotion, but I promise they were very excited to have these filters!
