I find that the more I share with people about what I am doing and what the World Race is, the more I am encouraged from the inside. I'm a pretty crazy guy, if God tells me to do something, I usually try to obey. Lately He has been telling me to share His vision of the race with seemingly random people. So, I do.
Today was my last day at my current job. My last day to wait tables ( Praise Jesus! ) While I was working my last shift, a family sat at one of my tables and everyone of the staff seemed to know who they were. As I was greeting them, I heard that all too familiar whisper in the back of my mind. That whisper that can so easily be mistaken as an inner voice, but in fact is the Holy Spirit. He told me to share with these people what I was doing with the race. I immediately thought to myself, How in the World? These people could probably care less, how would I even be able to bring it up organically? Well, as I was thinking this, they gave me an open door. The mom asked me how long I had been working at Mi Cocina and I knew that was my chance to tell them it was my last day and what was next. So I did. I shared with them, they encouraged me, and that was it. Simple.
It's what happened after they left that blew my mind.
On their credit card voucher, they wrote me a simple little note. 4 normal words, with a profound message behind them. Just love the people.
At first I was thinking, Ok they must really like the staff and service here, but as I remembered our conversation, I knew it was more than that. This was not about the staff, this message was about the hundreds of people we are going to come across while we travel 11 different countries. This was an encouragement and a reminder for me to remember that its simple, just bring love.
I think sometimes we can get caught up and stressed out about what to do, how to witness to someone, how to act, yadda yadda yadda. But in reality its simple, Just love people. That's it!!!! Its so profoundly simple that we pass it up constantly and forget that Jesus told us to love our God with all our hearts and to love our neighbors the same. You see, love is an action. We choose whether or not we show love to someone. Our material obsessed society has us convinced that love is some gooey emotion you feel when the guy/girl of your dreams shows up and sweeps you off of your feet. But that is so wrong. Love is an action, and we decide when and how we love people. You see, if you choose to serve someone, to help them in some way, over and over eventually they will feel loved. They will feel like someone cares about them, thus: Love is a action we consciously choose to administer or withhold.
Just Love the People. Besides the gospel message, theres nothing else so important. I plan to do this, to serve and love with everything I have. Are you loving people? What actions are you taking on a regular basis to show people the Love you have experienced? You see, you go into the mission field every day. Every day we are surrounded by people that our hurting when we go to school, to work, to the store. We don't have to go overseas to be on mission, our mission field is right here in our back yard.
Theres good news, its not complicated. Just Love the People.
